RESUMO: Este artigo tem por escopo analisar o texto ficcional O patrão (1978), do autor baiano Euclides
Neto (1925-2000), considerando as memórias individual e coletiva reconstruídas pelo autor em suas narra-
tivas e a inter-relação das mesmas com a história da civilização cacaueira sul-baiana. Para tanto, recorre-se
às premissas teóricas acerca da memória, discutidas por Maurice Halbwachs (2006) e Pierre Nora (1981); e
nas discussões acerca da história e da história genealógica, leva-se em conta a concepção nietzschiana, re-
tomada por Michel Foucault (1995). Conclui-se que Euclides Neto assume o seu próprio olhar, perspectivo,
diante da realidade da civilização cacaueira, trazendo uma versão que propõe ver a história sob a perspec-
tiva dos trabalhadores rurais oprimidos. Possibilita, então, uma contra-história, na busca de se repensar as
margens, oportunizando àqueles que foram silenciados por muito tempo em uma sociedade extremamente
marcada pela opressão da classe dominante, o direito à voz e à resistência.

ABSTRACT: This article has the purpose of analyzing the fictional text O patrão, written by the Bahian author
Euclides Neto, considering the individual and collective memories reconstructed by the author in his narra-
tives and the interrelationship between them and the history of south Bahia cocoa civilization. To this end,
the theoretical assumptions about memory discussed by Maurice Halbwachs (2006) and Pierre Nora (1981)
are used. The discussion about history and the genealogic history will take into account the Nietzschean con-
ception taken up by Michel Foucault (1995). The conclusion is that Euclides Neto assumes his own look, in
perspective, before the reality of the cocoa civilization, bringing a version that proposes to see the history
from the perspective of the oppressed peasants. Then, it provides a counter-history, seeking to rethink the
margins, providing opportunities to those who have been silenced for too long in a society strongly marked
by the oppression of the ruling class, the right to voice and to resistance.
