The editorial team of Em Pauta: teoria social e realidade contemporanea --UERJ's Faculdade de Servico Social journal--presents its 36th issue, which closes 2015's volume XIII with the theme Social Work and Labor.

The articles composing this edition express the exercise of theoretically and historically question the theme, based on the processes of academic research on contemporary and structural dimensions of labor and profession in capitalist society, and mediated by the sociohistorical formation of Brazil and Latin America. This profile allowed different approaches to the main theme, concerned with capturing the most universal dynamics, establishing mediation with the particular and singular contexts of historical changes in labor and the working class. By the same coin, profession was reflected upon and methodologically analyzed from the ontological bases of labor and from the historical and political articulation with the universal, particular, and singular processes of transformations of labor.

Therefore, in the first group of four articles, the exercise of questioning labor in bourgeois society is brought to the fore, from articulations with more ample and structuring determinations of social reality concerning capital, expressed through the so-called "neodevelopmentalist policies"; from the thorough study of practices of social casualization of labor in many dimensions, such as in gender relations; from the thorough study of class struggle observed through the challenges to the organization of the working class; from the neoliberal practices, especially caught by the submission of cash transfer programs to the management of poverty in Latin America.

The first article, titled Arranjos produtivos locais como estrategia neodesenvolvimentista e o papel da Qualificacao Profissional, investigates the state of Pernambuco's textiles local productive arrangement and analyzes the policies concerning the professional qualification of workers, its ideopolitical content, and the ways of articulation between such policies and the Brazilian neodevelopmentalist context. Finally, it looks into the processes of social casualization of labor and overexploitation of the workforce.

The following article, Da representacao ao controle: transformacoes do sindicalismo no decurso do desenvolvimento capitalista, questions the revolutionary and emancipatory potentials of unionism, and the challenges made by the capital, always historically renovated. This reflection takes the reader to the contemporary neoliberal redefinition of the relation between capital and labor, which "implicates in the lessening of the bargain limits of workers, and in the destruction of the foundations over which were raised the strategies that characterized the union movement in the 20th century."

Historical and theoretical mediation with Latin American reality is also part of this first segment of articles. Los Programas de Transferencia de Renta Condicionada bajo la lupa: olvidos, descuidos e invisibilidades points the reader to the "other face of Janus" of capitalist accumulation, of the metamorphosis of labor, and of the extended reproduction of capital: the growth of poverty, of neoliberal policies of "social management" by conditional cash transfer programs and its corollary processes of targeting, decentralization, and deconcentration in social policies.

Under the interpretive key of the precarization of work, the fourth article, Precarizacao e feminizacao do trabalho em Paraupebas, no estado do Para, discusses the concept of precariat and the inclusion of women in the labor market in the municipality of Parauapebas, Para. The empirical and theoretical focus of the article is centered in the critical-dialectical method, based on the analysis of "the speeches of...
