1. REVIEW
Is Batman above the law? Actually, no, and this is one of the certainties that the book that I am
going to review here gives us: “The Law of Superheroes”
written by two young American lawyers, James Daily and Ryan Davidson, editors of one of
the most interesting legal blogs on the web, “Law and the Multiverse. Superheroes,
supervillains, and the law” (http://lawandthemultiverse.com/).
It is a pretty original work which deals with those doubts that every lawyer interested in comics would have
while reading an edition by DC or Marvel.
We are talking about (rectius, writing about) a rather light topic maybe but it gave birth to an interesting
work even from a purely legal point of view.
Comics (which in Europe are often considered as just sub-culture) have already gained the attention of other
disciplines. Let's think of the articles published on this topic by the Journal of Popular Culture (published by
an outstanding publisher like Wiley-Blackwell) or of the well-known ethical debate on the influence that
comics would have on young generations, a debate triggered by the publication of the “Seduction of the
Innocent”, written by Fredric Wertham in 1954.
