Brazil Joins International Trademark System

The World Intellectual Property Organization ("WIPO") has announced that it has received Brazil's accession document to the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks. Accordingly, Brazil has become a member state of the Madrid System.

Through the Madrid System, trademark owners may file a single international application to seek trademark protection in multiple member states. The Madrid System makes the process of obtaining and managing trademark registrations easier as well as saving time and money.

With Brazil's membership, trademark owners in other member states will be able to protect their trademarks in Brazil through one filing via the Madrid System. Also, Brazilian trademark owners will be able to register marks in 120 other member...
